Brush Sushi Reopens in Its New Buckhead Location This Summer

After closing Brush Sushi Izakaya in Decatur this past fall ahead of its relocation, chefs Jason Liang and John Chen have now found the restaurant’s new home at Buckhead Village. It takes over the former American Cut space.
Brush Sushi should reopen this summer but with a much more upscale and modern design befitting the luxury dining and retail district in Buckhead, complete with large wooden panels with intricate carvings of hinoki (a Japanese cypress tree) and a private room seating 17 people offering omakase tastings from Liang.
Unlike in Decatur, the izakaya menu won’t carry over to the new location. That means no lobster ramen and baos in Buckhead. Instead, the Buckhead restaurant will center mainly on sushi and omakase experiences, along with grilled dishes cooked over Binchotan charcoal. Chen says, however, to expect some of Brush’s more popular a la carte dishes available on the menu in Buckhead and to see the restaurant open for both lunch and dinner.
Liang and Chen replaced Brush Sushi in Decatur with Cuddlefish, a casual omakase restaurant allowing people to choose between four, seven, nine, and 12 courses. The latter features sea urchins and a dessert from Momonoki pastry chef ChingYao Wang. A selection of hand rolls and a la carte nigiri are also available.
“These two restaurants will offer very different atmospheres — one casual and will hopefully attract more locals and one more of a destination — but the quality of sushi and service people expect from us will be there at both restaurants,” Chen previously told Eater.
Brush Sushi joins four other new restaurants opening at Buckhead Village in 2023. Yeppa and Co., the owners of Storico Fresco and Forza Storico, opens at the end of January in the former Biltong Bar space. Carmel, a coastal cuisine-inspired restaurant and bar from Tal Baum, opens this spring, with vegan restaurant Planta Queen slated to open this summer. A second location of the James Room is taking over the former Regent Cocktail Club space at Buckhead Village.
